1050miles done: Getting through 9 of them with the knee intact

We were down in Ashford in Kent for a World Cup party last night and stayed at Laura’s brother’s house so I went on a long run that brought up the 1050 mile mark in the Kent countryside.

I spent a little time before we left yesterday working out a couple of routes in the area around her brother’s house on the walkjogrun website and figured I’d try and do about eight miles… thanks to getting slightly lost at one point, I ended up doing just nine.

But it didn’t matter, the countryside around there is beautiful… mainly flat, green farmland with just the odd hill; all narrow country lanes that were mainly empty thanks to me setting out early on a Sunday morning. The weather was also conducive to running, the sun out, a few clouds, not too hot… but best of all, my knee gave me no problems at all. I’m back on track.

When is a day off not a day off?

So i had a day off today, from marathon training and ended up doing three miles on the treadmill at the gym.

The treadmill is supposed to be kinder to your legs as it’s softer than running on the roads but I have to say it destroys me mentally… Even with the headphones plugged into the TV system and watching some random program about possible World Cup stars, I wanted to chew my legs off by the end, not because they hurt but through sheer boredom.
